Scope
This policy covers personal information collected through publicenergyinc.com (the "site") and direct correspondence sent to email addresses listed on the site. Commercial and counterparty relationships governed by separate agreements carry their own confidentiality and data-handling provisions, which are not superseded by this policy.
Information we collect
We collect personal information in three categories.
- Technical information automatically collected. When you visit the site, our hosting infrastructure logs your IP address, browser type and version, device type, requested paths, referring URL, and timestamps. This is standard server log data used to operate the site and protect it from abuse.
- Aggregate analytics. We may use privacy- respecting analytics to understand aggregate site usage. This site does not set third-party advertising cookies and does not participate in cross-site behavioural tracking.
- Voluntary correspondence. Any information you send us by email through the contact paths on this site (industrial customers, development partners, media), including your name, email address, organization, and the content of your communication.
How we use it
- Operating, securing, and maintaining the website, including detection and prevention of abuse.
- Understanding aggregate site usage in order to improve content and structure.
- Responding to inquiries and conducting ordinary business correspondence.
- Complying with regulatory obligations imposed on us by the Ontario Energy Board, the IESO, and other applicable authorities.
Lawful basis and consent
Public Energy collects, uses, and discloses personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy laws, including Quebec's Law 25 where it applies.
We rely on implied consent for the technical information necessary to operate the site, and on express or inferred consent when you send us correspondence. Consent may be withdrawn at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, by contacting us as described in section 13.
Service providers and third parties
Personal information may be processed by service providers engaged by Public Energy. We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
- Hosting. The site is hosted on infrastructure operated by Vercel Inc., located in the United States. Server logs and any analytics data are processed there.
- Email delivery. Correspondence sent to addresses on the site is delivered through our email service provider, which processes incoming and outgoing messages on our behalf.
- Live data display. The dashboard on this site displays publicly available IESO data through Public Energy's internal data pipeline. This pipeline does not transmit visitor personal information.
Data location and cross-border transfer
Some processing occurs on infrastructure located in the United States. Where personal information is transferred outside Canada, it remains subject to the privacy obligations applicable to its custodians, and may also be subject to lawful access requests by foreign authorities under their jurisdiction.
Retention
- Server log data is retained for short periods, typically 30 to 90 days, then aggregated or deleted.
- Email correspondence is retained for as long as commercial relevance requires, generally not longer than seven years, unless a longer retention period is required to comply with regulatory or legal obligations.
- Analytics data is retained in aggregate, non-identifying form.
